BTI at Turner HQ for Primetime Emmy Awards
For the second year running, Broadcast Text worked in close partnership with Turner last month to subtitle the Emmy Awards for the German market.
Nerves are always on alert before subtitling big broadcasting events, but the close relationship and great teamwork between Turner and BTI were key to delivering a quality translation within a demanding timeframe.
Following the success of the project last year, we were delighted to be invited back by Turner Entertainment to provide German subtitles for this year’s show as well.
The event took place in Los Angeles on the 29th of August, at 03:00 GMT in the night from Sunday to Monday. Within just a few hours of the live broadcast on NBC, the three-hour show was edited down to a 90-minute highlights programme, which aired with German subtitles the following evening.
The task of subtitling the Emmy Awards 2010 was handled by a team of professional subtitlers, technical staff and experienced project leaders, who were sent by Broadcast Text to Turner HQ in London, with about six hours to turn-around the project.
The programme edit was finalised by Turner technicians shortly before 8:00 in the morning and immediately afterwards the subtitling team began the process of timing captions and translating content, delivering a full subtitle file to the ingest department in the early afternoon.
Silke Fürderer from BTI, manager of this year’s project, explained, "Working on a special project like this is always exciting. We have a very short turnaround time and everyone has to stay highly focused and concentrated in order to deliver an excellent translation in time for broadcast. The team once again did a great job this year."
The prestigious Emmy Awards aired in Germany on TNT Serie on Bank Holiday Monday, 30 August.
